so very true... |
No, seriously, I love fanfiction. It's fun to read, it's fun to write, and it's fun to think about.
Someone watches a movie, reads a book, sees a TV show, etc., etc. and says to themselves, "What if this happened..." Then they write a story. A story that they usually post on a website fanfiction.net, archiveofourown, or LiveJournal. Then others can read them and comment, like, or follow, or sometimes write their own stories. Its a way for people to explore new areas of the storyline.
Fanfiction terms? Yeah, reading a summary that says AU, OC, Gen, slash, and slash can be scary. Here's my fabulous go-to guide:
Some terms 2 know...
-- AU - alternate universe
When the writer changes something about the canon to create a story.
ex. assassin AU
ex. assassin AU
-- OC - original character
A character the writer makes up and adds to the story.
ex. OC in the Avengers
ex. OC in the Avengers
-- Gen - general story
The story is usually just a drabble about something canon. Nothing super special about it.
-- Drabble - stream of thought
When the writer just writes what comes to mind. Usually only a one-shot or a series of one-shots.
ex. X-Men Drabbles
-- Canon - part of the plot
When the writer uses things that were already true in the story's universe.
I know there are more, whatever. It's ten at night and I have to wake up early tomorrow. So leave me alone, okay?
See you soon, kiddos.
